THE DEATH OF MICKEY ROONEY

Born under the name of Joseph Yule, Jr,  in Brooklyn, New York on September 23, 1920 the stage name of Mickey Rooney was chosen instead.  He married eight times, divorced seven times, became the father of four boys, four girls and adopted a fifth boy child.  His filmography is too numerous to name, but his most identifiable role was as Andy Hardy in a series of sixteen full length teenage drama films plus an eighteen minute short subject film.  The Andy Hardy teenage drama film series started in 1937 and ended in 1958.  Mickey Rooney aka Andy Hardy died in Los Angeles, California at age 93 on April 6, 2014.  His death was a huge blow to Hollywood because a crucial legend in the Hollywood film industry has passed away.

Judy Garland (Liza Minnelli's birth mother) played the girlfriend role in three out of sixteen Andy Hardy films entitled Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938), Andy Hardy Meets Debutante (1940) and Life Begins for Andy Hardy (1941).  Mickey Rooney's close friendship with Judy Garland far exceeded beyond her role as Betsy Booth in the sixteen film Andy Hardy teen film drama series to include countless collaborations in dramas and musicals.
