SHE'S A RUNAWAY WHO IS RUNNING AWAY

Lita Ford was born in London, England under the name Carmelita Rossana Ford on September 19, 1958.  Lita Ford joined the all girl rock band the Runaways around the same time that Bangles bass guitar player Michael Steele (Micki Steele) left the band.  The Runaways released six official albums and an unofficial seventh album before breaking up.  Kim Fowley was the Svengali mastermind behind the blockbuster smash hit rock group and the women had already fired him after six official albums and an unofficial seventh album.  What to do next was a huge issue for the women.  Joan Jett, Cherie Currie and bass guitar player Jackie Fox wanted to stear the group towards hard core heavy metal/punk rock music similar to the Romones and the Sex Pistols.  Lita Ford and Sandy West wanted the Runaways to play hard rock music similar to the Rolling Stones instead.  Unable to make a decision about what type of songs to write for their next album, the group broke up.  Joan Jett and Lita Ford had the most successful solo careers of the Runaway band members.  Lita Ford has currently recorded eight solo albums with the earlier solo albums selling better than the later albums.  Her biggest profitability was in the 1980's when her music benfited from the hair band metal craze.   Lita Ford had a brief marriage to former W.A.S.P. guitar player Chris Holmes before marrying (and later divorcing) former Nitro guitar player Jim Gillette.  The divorced pair produced two sons James Gillette and Rocco Gillette.
