THE ART OF CLAPPING YOUR HANDS VERY VERY SLOWLY

There's a scene in the Dark Knight Rises where the Heath Ledger version of the Joker has been arrested by the police much too easily.  And when Police Detective Gordon that he has been promoted to Police Commissioner, all the police officer was clapping with happiness.  The happiness about Gordon's promotion was spoiled when it was discovered that the Heath Ledger version of the Joker was also clapping with the same hate filled expression unchanged.  And the Joker's slow clapping wasn't out of happiness, but was an expression of "So what, who gives a shit, I'm going to win because Police Commissioner Gordon will be just as useless as the previous Police Commissioner" insulting arrogance.  In that case, the fast clapping from the police about Police Commissioner Gordon's promotion was out of respect and the Joker's slow clapping to the same news was out of disrespect to Police Commissioner Gordon.  I heard from the Internet that the Joker's slow clapping to the news of Police Detective Gordon's promotion to Police Commissioner wasn't even in the script, but rather was improvised by Heath Ledger before he died from a drug overdose.  So the simple act of hand clapping could either be a compliment or it could be a form of disrespect.  With luck, the next time we hand clap, it's used as a compliment.  With luck, we'll never use hand clapping as an insult or disrespect to anybody---The Police Station Commissioner included.
