Lena Katina was born under the name Elena Sergeevna Katina in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union on October 4, 1984.

Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova first met each other as members of the childrens only rock group Neposedi (Fidgety Children).  And once a child grows closer towards adulthood (Or at least puberty), the Neposedi member must leave the group.  And having grown close to each other as best friends forever, Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova formed a dance music duet rock group called T.A.T.U. and cultivated an image of lesbian outlaws.  The genuine truth was that both women were actually heterosexual and always worked within the legal system (Which in Russia is dramatically different from the United States version of working within the legal system).  Formed in 1999, T.A.T.U. was originally supposed to be named T.A.T.Y. and was an abbreviation of Эта девочка любит ту девочку which was a popular Russian saying for This girl loves that girl (Keep in mind that both of the T.A.T.U. were pretending to be outlaw lesbians).  Their debut album 200 Po Vstrechnoy was released on May 21, 2001.  Interscope Records rerecorded the entire album mostly in English under the brand new title 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane.  You can still purchase the original Russian language version too.  Dangerous and Moving was released on October 5, 2005.  Their third album was recorded only in Russian, never released through Interscope and entitled  Lyudi Invalidy (Translated into Disabled People) on  October 21, 2005.  The album is still hard to find in American record stores and could only purchased through limited Internet exclusive resources.  T.A.T.U. recorded their third Russian language exclusive album Vesyolye Ulybki (Translated into Happy Smiles) on October 21, 2008.  And when they were dropped by Interscope, T.A.T.U. recorded an english language version of Vesyolye Ulybki retitled Waste Management on their own private record label T.A. Music.  You can still purcase the Russian language version too.
On 2011, Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova broke up T.A.T.U. and signed contracts for solo albums.  And despite recording singles that charted well in both native country of Russia in particular and Europe in general (It's hard for T.A.T.U. to get a following in the United States beyond their albums 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane and Dangerous and Moving), no solo albums ever were recorded or released.  Instead, Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova appeared to be reforming T.A.T.U. to tour and possibly record more albums in the future.
Pavel Sidorov got Yulia Volkova pregnant with her first daughter despite already being married with a child at the time.  He refused to marry Yulia and refused to keep in touch with her. Yulia has been raising her daughter Viktoria Pavlovna "Vika" Volkova as a single parent.  Lena Katina came from a frequently divorcing and remarrying family and to make a complicated story short, her half sister Katya was born to a different father and her half brother Ivan was born to a different mother.  Both Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova are still actively engaged in the music industry.
