SHE WOLF

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born in the South American community of Barranquilla, Columbia on February 2, 1977. Nidia Ripoll and William Mebarak Chadid produced only one child, a daughter, and Shakira was her name. Shakira grew up in a multi-ethic household in which her Father's side originated from Lebanon (Her grandfather on her Father's side left Lebanon for New York City where her father was born). Her mother's side was a mixture of Spanish and Caucasian-Italian. Shakira grew up in the Columbian city of Barranquilla where an exploration into the Middle Eastern-Lebanon side of her ethnicity at the age of four at a Middle Eastern restaurant led to a love of dancing to Middle Eastern music. Dance classes soon followed by music lessons. At first, it was belly dancing to the doumbek (Goblet Drum) before followed by other forms of dancing. Her love for singing in the Barranquilla, Columbia area Catholic school Choir in first grade was soured by her dismissal from that same choir at age two. Shakira wasn't deterred though. Shakira was determined to prove that she didn't sing in a goat-like manner as the Choir teacher insisted.
Her efforts started to gain traction between age ten to thirteen when a series of Barranquilla, Columbia area performances led to a recording contract with Sony Columbia and her debut album at age thirteen. Her debut album was released in 1991 and her second album was released in 1993. However, it wasn't until her third album in 1995 that her career started to enter celebrity status. After another South America area hit album in 1998, she released her first English language album in 2001 where she became a household name in the United States, Canada and Europe. She won five MTV Music Video awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, twenty-eight Latin Billboard Music Awards plus being nominated, but didn't win the Golden Globe Award. Her latest album was released on March 21, 2014. She's a contest judge on the singing competition series the Voice since 2013. Her relationship with Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique has resulted in the birth of her first child. Shakira continues to record and tour to this exact moment of time.
