All born on 1979 and became best friends by the time they were in eighth grade, Brett Anderson (Donna A.), Allison Robertson (Donna R.), Maya Ford (Donna F.) and Torry Castellano (Donna C.) formed the band Ragady Anne in May 1993. Teaching themselves how to perform and sing music and practicing Torry Castellano's garage, Ragady Anne released an EP before changing the name of the group.
Ragady Anne changed their names to The Electrocutes and released their debut album. Then the Electrocutes decided to establish a second band with the same members as The Electrocutes. The Electrocutes would play heavy metal/punk rock music while the Donnas would play softer pop/soft rock tunes. However, when the Electrocutes started to record the debut album of the Donnas, the album turned into a heavy metal/punk rock album and the girls stopped performing as the Electrocutes.
Between 1997 to 2004, the Donnas recorded six albums once a year every year for a period of eight years. They released their eighth album in 2007 and their ninth album in 2009. The Donnas continue to record music and tour to support their music at this exact moment of time.
