She was born under the name Suzanne Nadine Peck in
Santa Monica, California on July 11, 1959. Her parents, Richard Peck and Pat Vega divorced a brief time after the day she was born. Both of her parents were of Caucasian origin. Her mother, Pat Vega, was German-Swedish. Her father, Richard Peck, was Scottish-English-Irish. Her step-father was Hispanic-American from Puerto-Rico named Edgardo Vega Yunqué who writes poems and short stories under the pen name Ed Vega. Ed Vega's publications include The Comeback (1985), Mendoza's Dreams (1987), Casualty Report (1991), No Matter How Much You Promise to Cook or Pay the Rent You Blew It Cause Bill Bailey Ain't Never Coming Home Again: A Symphonic Novel (2003), The Lamentable Journey of Omaha Bigelow Into The Impenetrable Loisaida Jungle (2004) and Blood Fugues (2005). Suzanne Peck eventually had her name legally changed to her mother's maiden name of Vega. Suzanne Vega attended Barnard College where she pursued an English Literature major. She frequently hung out at the The Cornelia Street Cafe where she joined the Jack Hardy Monday night songwriters' group which got together to publish Fast Folk Magazine. Fast Folk Magazine featured contributions from Suzanne Vega, Julie Gold, Tracy Chapman, Shawn Colvin, Michelle Shocked, Suzy Bogguss, Christine Lavin, Lucy Kaplansky, Lyle Lovett, John Gorka, Rod MacDonald and Richard Shindell.
The first issue of Fast Folk Magazine was in February 1982 and the final issue of Fast Folk Magazine was in 1997.
Suzanne Vega's debut album was released in 1985 and her latest album was released in 2012. Mitchell Froom, a musician and record producer, married Suzanne Vega in March 17, 1995 and they seperated without divorcing in 1998. Suzanne Vega and her spouse Michell Froom produced a daughter named Ruby Froom.
