SHE SAW CLOUDS IN HER COFFEE

Carly Elisabeth Simon was born in Riverdale, Bronx, New York City, New York on June 25, 1945.  Her father,  Richard Leo Simon, co-founded the book publishing firm  Simon & Schuster, Inc.  Her mother Andrea Heinemann Simon was a Caucasian community organizer and civil rights activist.  Her siblings are older sister (Former opera singer turned real estate broker) Joanna Simon, older sister  Lucy Simon (Broadway musical composer) and younger brother Peter Simon (Photographer).  After graduating Riverdale Country School, Carly Simon attended  Sarah Lawrence College, joined the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority before dropping out of both to become a rock star.  With her college plans gone forever, she formed a duet rock group with her older sister Lucy Simon called the Simon Sisters.  The Simon sisters recorded five albums before breaking up.

With the Simon Sisters broken up, Carly Simon started recording solo albums without her older sister Lucy Simon.  And while Lucy Simon never matched the success of her former symbiotic duet rock group partner Carly Simon, she did state successful Broadway shows like The Secret Garden (Based upon a novel written by Frances Hodgson Burnett).  Carly Simon married rock star James Taylor on November 3, 1972 and divorced him on 1983.  The former married couple produced two children named Sarah Maria "Sally" Taylor and Benjamin "Ben" Taylor (Who is a rock star himself).   She married businessman, poet and writer James Hart on December 23, 1987 and divorced him in 2007.  Carly Simon lives in Martha's Vineyard located in the Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts.
