NORTH TO ALASKA

Jewel Kilcher was born in Payson, Utah on May 23, 1974, but she didn't stay there long.  Her entire family relocated to Homer, Alaska where she spent her entire childhood.  Her grandfather, Yule Kilcher, was the state Senator for the state of Alaska and was part of it's constitutional convention.  Actress Q'orianka Waira Qoiana Kilcher is Jewel Kilcher's cousin.  Growing up in a house without indoor plumbing and with an outhouse instead of an indoor restroom, she developed an interest in music.  She attended Interlochen Arts Academy located in Interlochen, Michigan where she learned to play the guitar.  Upon graduating Interlochen Arts Academy, Jewel Kilcher lived inside her van instead of with relatives or in an apartment so she could persue a career as a rock star.  She only managed acustic guitar concerts in cappuccino cafes instead.  It was one of her acustic guitar concerts in a cappuccino cafe that a representative of Atlantic Records signed Jewel Kilcher to a recording contract.  On August 7, 2008 she married rodio cowboy athlete Ty Murray and produced a child with him.  Her latest album, a children's album filled with childrens tunes, was released in 2011.
