Sandy West was born under the name Sandy Pesavento in Long Beach, California on July 10, 1959. Joan Jett, Sandy West and Michael Steele (aka Micki Steele) was the founding members of the all woman punk rock band the Runaways. Though Michael Steele (aka Micki Steele) only lasted eleven months, Sandy West and Joan Jett stuck around for the entire duration of the band from 1975 to 1979. And while Joan Jett went on to bigger and better rock star opportunities, Sandy West never succeeded in getting a solo career started. She released solo eps without success. She started her own backup band without success. She assisted in veterinary medicine, worked as a construction worker, she broke people's arms for not paying illegal gambling bookies and other illegal financial debt and she worked as a bartender. However, it was Sandy West's addiction to cigarettes that did her in. Sandy West died of lung cancer at age 47 on October 21, 2006.
