Born under the name Joan Marie Larkin, Joan Jett was born in
Wynnewood, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1958. Along with bass guitar player Michael Steele (aka Micki Steele (Who only stuck around for ten months before quitting)) and drummer Sandy West was the original three founding members of the all girl rock band the Runaways. Both guitar player Lita Ford and Joan Jett had the most successful solo careers beyond the Runaways. While Lita Ford never needed to give her backup band top billing status, Joan Jett always gave top billing status to her backup band the Blackhearts. Joan Jett also did acting jobs on the side. She played the leading lady in the film Light of Day and her song Bad Reputation was the theme song for the television series Freaks and Geeks. Joan Jett also made guest star appearances in the Highlander episode Free fall, Walker Texas Ranger episode Wedding Bells Part One and Law and Order: Criminal Intent episode Reunion. However, it's recording albums and going on tour to support her albums that Joan Jett is better known for. She probably is working on her next album even as we speak.
